Guwahati, May 17: An international cricket stadium is currently under construction at Amingaon in Guwahati, with the project expected to be completed by December 2025. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the site on Saturday to review the progress of the work.
The stadium is scheduled to be inaugurated in February 2026 and will be open to the public. It is being developed to host all formats of international cricket — including Test matches, One Day Internationals (ODIs), and T20s. Infrastructure upgrades are also being incorporated to manage traffic congestion in the area.
The Chief Minister stated that the stadium will also host major concerts and public events, making it a multi-purpose venue. He emphasized that the initiative is part of the state’s efforts to boost sports infrastructure in preparation for hosting the National Games.
Additionally, Sarma announced that reconstruction of Guwahati’s Nehru Stadium will begin next month. He also confirmed that the new bridge connecting North Guwahati will be inaugurated in December this year to enhance regional connectivity.
