Guwahati, May 24: Kangbo Aloti (The Lost Path), a Karbi-language film directed by Khanjan Kishore Nath, has become the first film in the language to secure a distribution deal in the United Kingdom and China, including Hong Kong and Macau.
The distribution rights were acquired by UK China Film Colab, a London-based company, marking a historic milestone for both Karbi and Assamese cinema. The announcement was made during the 78th Festival International du Film at Cannes, France, where the film was also featured at the Indian Pavilion during the Cannes film market.
Produced by Ruru Rara Entertainment, the film follows the journey of Longsing, a young militant sent to a remote village for recruitment. There, he encounters a schoolteacher with differing views, sparking a conflict that leads to a deeper search for identity and belief.
“This is a proud moment for us. Collaborating with UK China Film Colab allows our regional stories to reach international audiences,” said Khanjan Kishore Nath.
UK China Film Colab founder Hiu Man Chan said the film brings an important voice from a lesser-known Indian community. “This distribution opens a new model for UK-China collaboration through regional Indian films,” she added.
The Chief Executive Member of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council congratulated the team and called the achievement a breakthrough moment for Karbi cinema on the global stage.
Kangbo Aloti is Nath’s third feature film. He is a national award-winning filmmaker active in the Indian film industry since 2006.
