Kaziranga National Park in Assam will remain open until May 29 after authorities extended the tourism season by four days in response to a surge in visitors. The UNESCO World Heritage site, celebrated for its population of the endangered one-horned rhinoceros, had initially been scheduled to close on May 25 to prepare for the monsoon.
The decision followed strong appeals from tourism stakeholders, particularly the Kaziranga Hotel and Resort Association, which urged officials to keep the park accessible due to the steady flow of domestic and international tourists. Park management reviewed the requests and opted to revise the closure schedule, allowing visitors additional time to explore the wildlife and natural landscape before heavy rains begin.
The extension has been welcomed by tourists and businesses linked to the sector, with hotels, resorts, and local enterprises expected to benefit from the prolonged season. Once the park closes on May 29, authorities will begin monsoon preparedness and conservation activities to safeguard the ecosystem during the rainy months.
