Guwahati, May 6: A malaria outbreak in Kachugaon, located in Assam’s Kokrajhar district, has resulted in the deaths of two young men. The outbreak has particularly affected the India-Bhutan border regions, raising serious concerns among local authorities.
In response, the Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner has visited the affected areas, and the district administration has launched extensive blood testing efforts to curb the spread of the disease.
A team from the Malaria Department is conducting door-to-door blood sample collection in villages such as Demdema, Nabin Nagar, Alinagar, Raimona, and Kusumbil. Additionally, health teams are visiting schools to conduct blood tests on students in an effort to prevent the disease from spreading further among the younger population.
Blood testing is also being carried out at the Kachugaon Civil Hospital, where initial results have confirmed cases of Plasmodium vivax (P. vivax) malaria. The India-Bhutan border regions in Kachugaon have experienced recurrent malaria outbreaks, making it a seasonal health challenge for local communities.
