The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested two more individuals in connection with the recovery of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) near Dispur Last Gate in Guwahati, Assam. The case is linked to a larger conspiracy by the banned outfit ULFA (Independent) to carry out blasts in the state ahead of Independence Day in 2024.
The arrested individuals, Bhargob Gogoi and Sumu Gogoi, both residents of Dibrugarh district, were allegedly directly involved in the terror plot. According to the NIA, the duo played a key role in the conspiracy aimed at threatening the sovereignty, integrity, and security of the country.
With these arrests, the total number of accused taken into custody in case RC-03/2024/NIA-GUW has increased to three.
The NIA had taken over the probe from Dispur police in September 2024. Last month, the agency filed a chargesheet against three other individuals under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, and the Explosive Substances Act.
Further investigation in the case is underway.
