Nagaon, Oct 27: A special POCSO court in Nagaon district has sentenced a 50-year-old man to life imprisonment for raping and impregnating his 13-year-old daughter, officials said on Sunday.

The verdict was delivered on Friday evening by Additional District and Sessions Judge-cum-Special Judge of Nagaon POCSO Court, Chitra Rani Saikia. The court also directed the convict to pay Rs 5 lakh as compensation to the survivor, with an additional six months in prison if he fails to make the payment.

According to Nagaon ASP (Crime) Jayanta Baruah, the incident occurred earlier this year in the Amsoi area under Raha police station. The man allegedly raped his daughter inside their home when his wife was away.

The crime came to light about five months later when the mother noticed changes in the girl’s body and discovered she was pregnant. Following this, a complaint was lodged at Raha police station on June 3. Police completed the investigation and filed the chargesheet within 28 days at the Nagaon POCSO court.

Baruah confirmed that the survivor has since given birth to a child.
