Guwahati, Dec 20: Uday Bhanu Chib, the national president of the Indian Youth Congress (IYC), was detained by Assam Police on Friday morning before he could lead a planned protest over the death of a party worker two days ago.

According to Guwahati Police Commissioner Diganta Barah, Chib was placed under preventive detention at the hotel where he had been staying. Chib had arrived in Guwahati to lead the “Dispur Gherao” protest, but authorities denied permission for the demonstration, citing concerns over public safety. Barah further stated that Chib had been informed that he would not be allowed to leave the hotel during the detention period.
