The Special Investigation Team (SIT) and Crime Investigation Department (CID) of Assam Police on Thursday produced two alleged accused, Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and Amritprava Mahanta, before the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court (CJM) in Guwahati in connection with the death case of noted singer Zubeen Garg.

Zubeen Garg passed away in Singapore on September 19, reportedly while swimming a day before his scheduled performance at the Northeast India Festival. Under heavy police security, the SIT and CID brought the two accused from the CID office. Both are currently under police remand for their alleged involvement in the singer’s death.

Earlier, five accused, including Shyamkanu Mahanta and Siddharth Sharma, were sent to judicial custody by the court. SIT chief and Special DGP (CID) Munna Prasad Gupta stated that seven arrests have been made so far, with five persons’ custody already completed. The remand of Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and Amritprava Mahanta is set to expire the day after tomorrow.

Gupta added that statements from 10 witnesses, including three NRIs from Singapore, have been recorded. The SIT is awaiting responses regarding officer visits planned for the Singapore investigation and clarified that further remand will be sought only if new facts emerge.

Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, a former bandmate of Zubeen Garg, recently alleged that the singer was poisoned in Singapore, contradicting the initial report of a swimming accident. The SIT plans to submit the post-mortem report to the court as part of ongoing proceedings. The investigation continues as Assam Police pursue all leads in the high-profile case.
