Guwahati, May 9: Assam is no longer the state with the highest Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR), Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Thursday, citing data from the Sample Registration System (SRS) 2019–21 report.
According to the report, Assam’s MMR has dropped from 195 to 167 a 28-point decline, the highest reduction recorded among all Indian states.
Sarma, sharing the update on social media platform X, also stated that the state has shown improvement in its Infant Mortality Rate (IMR), though specific figures were not mentioned.
