Guwahati , May 29: Assam Skill University and the Directorate of Sainik Welfare, Government of Assam, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to provide skill development training and rehabilitation support to ex-servicemen and their dependents.

The MoU was signed by Subhash Das, IAS (Retd), Vice Chancellor of Assam Skill University, and Brig Ploash Choudhury, SM (Retd), Director of Sainik Welfare. According to a statement from the Defence PRO, the initiative aims to align the hands-on experience of former Armed Forces personnel with industry-relevant training and certification, enabling their transition into roles in the private sector, government services, and Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs).

The programme also focuses on the rehabilitation of ex-servicemen who retire at a relatively young age, with 15 to 20 years of productive work life ahead. In addition, the initiative will support widows and dependents of ex-servicemen by guiding them toward sustainable and meaningful career paths, promoting financial independence.

To ensure effective coordination and implementation, Col PN Giri (Retd), ZSWO Darrang, and Dr Jagadish Nath, Deputy Registrar of Assam Skill University, have been appointed as Single Points of Contact (SPOC) from each side.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Subhash Das emphasised the importance of integrating the unique skill sets of ex-servicemen into the modern workforce. Brig Choudhury expressed hope that the partnership would positively impact the lives of veterans and their families.

The MoU marks a significant step towards mainstreaming ex-servicemen and their dependents into the state’s economic framework, contributing to Assam’s overall socio-economic development.
