Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Sunday released a Hindi book on the life and legacy of musical legend Bhupen Hazarika, highlighting that works in regional languages help promote cultural dialogue and strengthen emotional ties across regions.

Titled Bhupen Da ka Surila Safar (Bhupen Da’s Melodious Journey), the 184-page book chronicles the life, creative genius, and enduring contributions of the Bharat Ratna awardee. The book is authored by Guwahati-based journalist Azhar Alam and published by the Assam Rashtra Bhasha Prachar Samiti, aiming to introduce Hazarika’s work to Hindi-speaking audiences.

Sonowal, who is also the Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways and former Assam Chief Minister, described Hazarika as “more than Assam’s voice” and said his music reflected human sensitivity, social concern, and a commitment to national unity. He added that the book would help connect the North East’s cultural heritage with the Hindi heartland and inspire younger generations, especially during the ongoing year-long birth centenary celebrations of Hazarika that began on September 8.
