The Assam government is intensifying preparations as Guwahati is set to host two major international cricket events — the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 and the second Test of the India–South Africa series.

State Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Nandita Garlosa chaired a review meeting on Tuesday night with Chief Secretary Ravi Kota, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, Assam Cricket Association (ACA) officials, and senior members of the sports department to finalize arrangements.

The ACA Barsapara Cricket Stadium will host the World Cup opening ceremony and the inaugural match between India and Sri Lanka on September 30, followed by matches on October 3, 7, and 10. Officials are also considering Guwahati as a venue for one of the semifinals on October 29.

In addition to the World Cup, Guwahati will host the second Test of the India–South Africa series from November 22, along with a T20 league match early next year.

Chief Secretary Kota confirmed that the Public Works Department and Traffic Police have been tasked with upgrading infrastructure and ensuring smooth logistics to meet international standards. He added, “These tournaments will project Guwahati as a premier global cricket venue and showcase Assam’s readiness to host events of such scale.”
