Guwahati, June 1: The Assam government has announced that the distribution of subsidised pulses, sugar and salt under the public distribution system will remain suspended for two months beginning June. The decision comes as the state continues to operate under a vote-on-account budget following the recent assembly elections.
In a notice published in newspapers, the Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs Department stated that the supply of these essential items at subsidised rates has been halted until July. The department explained that the suspension was necessary as the full budget for 2026–27 will only be presented by the newly formed government in July.
Officials indicated that once the budget is passed, the distribution of ration items is expected to resume, ensuring continuity of welfare measures for eligible beneficiaries.
