Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the state is set to bring back the historic Vrindavani Vastra, created by Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev, on an 18-month loan from the British Museum in 2027. The textile, which depicts the dasavatara of Lord Krishna along with his childhood activities, is currently preserved in the British Museum and other European museums.

The CM said efforts to bring the textile back have been ongoing for several years. Assam is now working closely with the British Museum, JSW, and the Indian Ambassador to Britain to facilitate the loan. The British Museum has agreed to provide the textile on loan, provided Assam constructs a museum meeting the required environmental standards.

The Assam government has already allotted land for the museum, and JSW has committed to constructing it under their CSR initiative before handing it over to the state government. The Chief Minister expressed confidence that the Vrindavani Vastra will be displayed in Assam by 2027.
