The Assam government is set to introduce significant legislation addressing sensitive social issues, including ‘love jihad’ and polygamy, during the next session of the state Assembly, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters at an official function in Nagaon, Sarma stated that the final drafts of these proposed bills will first be submitted to the state cabinet for approval before being introduced in the Assembly.

He further noted that the upcoming session is likely to feature “historic bills” aimed at the preservation of Satras (Vaishnavite monasteries) and the protection of land rights for members of the tea tribe community.
