Guwahati, Aug 6: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday announced that the Assam government will launch an online portal to facilitate arms licence applications for indigenous communities residing in sensitive areas.
The initiative aims to address security concerns among indigenous residents who perceive threats to their safety. Sarma said that arms licences will be granted only after a rigorous, multi-layered verification process.
The Chief Minister shared the information on social media platform X, along with detailed guidelines outlining the eligibility criteria and application procedure.
