Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that projects worth ₹1.78 lakh crore, committed during this year’s investment summit, will commence by December, creating new employment opportunities for the state’s youth.
Speaking at a foundation stone-laying ceremony in Guwahati on Friday evening, Sarma inaugurated three major ventures Medanta Super Speciality Hospital by Global Health Limited, Cocoon Mother and Childcare Hospital by RJ Corp Healthcare, and a five-star Lemon Tree Hotel.
The Chief Minister said the investment commitments made under ‘Advantage Assam 2.0’ are steadily turning into on-ground projects. He highlighted two upcoming ventures a ₹40,000 crore thermal power project and ₹30,000 crore palm storage projects as part of the broader ₹1.78 lakh crore development push.
The newly inaugurated projects Medanta Hospital (on 3.5 acres), Cocoon Hospital (1 acre), and Lemon Tree Hotel (1.75 acres) represent a combined investment of ₹800 crore under MoUs signed at the February summit. The integrated Sarusajai complex, which will house hospitals, a hotel, and service apartments, is expected to strengthen Assam’s healthcare and hospitality sectors and position the state as a growing medical tourism hub for neighboring regions and Southeast Asia.
Sarma said the projects would generate substantial local employment, helping reduce the migration of youth in search of jobs. State Industries and Commerce Minister Bimal Bora was also present at the event.
