Guwahati, July 21: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday announced that the state will achieve a daily milk processing capacity of 10 lakh litres within the next three years.

The Chief Minister made the announcement during the bhumi pujan ceremony for the expansion of the Purabi Dairy plant in Guwahati. The plant’s processing capacity will be increased from 1.5 lakh litres to 3 lakh litres per day under the ₹100-crore project.

Sarma said the expansion is part of a joint initiative between the Assam government and the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) to strengthen the state’s dairy sector.

He also informed that new milk processing units will be set up in Silchar, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, and other locations across the state to support the targeted capacity.

“We set a goal three years ago to process 10 lakh litres of milk daily, and I am confident that we will achieve this target in the next three to four years,” Sarma said.
