Guwahati-born filmmaker Maharshi Tuhin Kashyap’s debut feature film Kok Kok Kookkook has been selected for the Vision Asia section of the 30th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), scheduled to take place in South Korea from September 17 to 26, 2025.
Produced by the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI), Kolkata, the film is a magic realist horror drama that explores the struggles of migrants in search of identity. Set in Guwahati, it blends poetic visuals with a haunting narrative.
Kashyap, an SRFTI alumnus, developed the project as his final dissertation under the mentorship of filmmaker Dominic Sangma. His earlier short films have also received international recognition and multiple awards.
The world premiere of Kok Kok Kookkook at BIFF marks a significant milestone for Kashyap and brings international attention to Assamese cinema.
