Guwahati, Jan 16: National Award-winning Assamese filmmaker Rima Das is set to return to the Berlin International Film Festival with her latest feature, Not a Hero. The film will have its world premiere in the Generation Kplus Competition at the 76th edition of the festival on February 14, 2026.

This marks Das’s third appearance at Berlinale, following Village Rockstar (2019) and its sequel Village Rockstars 2 (2025). Not a Hero follows a young boy exiled from city life to his ancestral village, where he clashes with a bitter aunt, bonds with a horse, and embarks on adventures with local children, reshaping his understanding of strength, masculinity, and belonging.

Shot in Assamese, Hindi, and English, the film features Bhuman Bhargav Das, Sukanya Boruah, and non-professional actors. It is produced by Das’s Flying River Films in collaboration with Akanga Film Asia.

Das said, “Not a Hero grew from my curiosity about how children understand strength without fear or expectation. It explores courage rooted in kindness, awareness, and adaptation—a reflection for all generations.”

The Berlinale Generation section this year presents 18 feature films and 23 shorts from 31 countries, including 30 world premieres and 10 feature debuts.
