Assamese Short Film ‘Ansuni Chinkhe’ Wins Best Short Film At Indian Independent Film Festival

Guwahati, Jun 18: The Assamese short film Ansuni Chinkhe has won the Best Short Film award at the Indian Independent Film Festival (IIFF) 2025, held recently in Kolkata. The film is written and directed by Dr Parthasarathi Mahanta.

Produced by Mina Mahanta and Indrani Baruah, the film features acclaimed actor Seema Biswas in a solo performance. Her role has been widely praised for its emotional depth and powerful execution.

Earlier this year, Ansuni Chinkhe earned major awards at the Jaipur International Film Festival (JIFF) 2025, including Best Director for Dr Mahanta and Best Actress for Seema Biswas. It also won Best Short Film at the Delhi Short Film Festival 2025.

Internationally, the film was featured in the online segment of the Marché du Film at Cannes, drawing appreciation for its minimalist cinematic style and compelling narrative.

Dr Parthasarathi Mahanta, who also serves as Chief of the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police and Commissioner of Guwahati Police, has been commended for his contribution to regional cinema.

The recognition of Ansuni Chinkhe at multiple platforms continues to highlight the growing presence of Assamese short films in national and international film circuits.
