Assam’s 11-year-old chess player Viraj Sarawgi registered a significant improvement in his FIDE rating after gaining 290 Elo points during two back-to-back FIDE-rated tournaments held in Italy and Germany from January 23 to February 2.

The young player delivered strong performances against international opponents across both events, competing in challenging fields. His results in Europe contributed to the sharp rise in his Elo rating.

A Class VI student of Royal Global School in Guwahati, Viraj took part in the Italian International Open, which saw participation from nearly 100 players from different countries. He also competed in a FIDE-rated tournament in Germany as part of the same European tour.
