Assam’s Ancient ‘Sanchipat’ Manuscripts Preserved At Rashtrapati Bhavan Library

The Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra Society on Tuesday formally handed over five ancient Assamese sanchipat manuscripts to the Rashtrapati Bhavan library for preservation and public display.

During a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, Kalakshetra Secretary Sudarshan Thakur presented the manuscripts to Rashtrapati Bhavan Secretary Dipti Umashankar. The event was attended by officials from Assam Bhavan and representatives of both the Assam and central governments.

The manuscripts were collected from various satras across Assam under the coordination of the Kalakshetra Society. The collection includes:

Kirtan Ghoxa by Srimanta Sankardev, contributed by Shri Shri Dakshinpat Satra, Majuli

Adi Dasham, a poetic translation of the tenth skandha of the Bhagavata Purana by Sankardev, from Shri Shri Narua Kuji Satra, Morigaon

Nam Ghoxa by Madhavdev, from Shri Shri Uttar Kamalabari Satra, Majuli

Bhakti Ratnavali, translated by Madhavdev, from Shri Shri Kamalabari Satra, Titabor

Geet Govinda, translated by Kabiraj Chakravarti during the reign of Swargadeo Rudra Singha, donated by Suren Phukan of Jorhat

The initiative aims to strengthen efforts to safeguard Assam’s classical literary tradition and promote its cultural heritage on a national platform.
