Guwahati, Jun 19: The maintenance of 167 heritage sites across Assam, including the UNESCO-recognised Ahom-era ‘Moidams’, has been disrupted as the state government is yet to clear dues amounting to over ₹2 crore.
Around 180 contractual workers, engaged through two private contractors under the Directorate of Archaeology, have not received their salaries since November 2024 due to the pending payments.
The delayed payments have severely affected the maintenance of historical sites, with many employees not reporting for duties.
