Assam’s iconic singer, composer, and Bharat Ratna awardee Bhupen Hazarika was honored at the ongoing World Expo in Japan as part of his centenary celebrations, recognizing his contributions to music, culture, and universal humanism.

A cultural programme at the India Pavilion featured performances by artistes from Assam, presenting dances inspired by Hazarika’s famous songs, including Mahabahu Brahmaputra, Moi Eti Zazabor, and Manuhe Manuhor Babe, highlighting his musical legacy and Assam’s rich cultural heritage.

The event also emphasized Hazarika’s longstanding ties with Japan, recalling his visits and cultural exchanges. Initiatives by the Assam government commemorating the maestro’s centenary were also showcased to an international audience.
