Guwahati, April 1: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday declared that the BJP would implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Assam, framing the move as a vital step toward ensuring the dignity and safety of women. Addressing a massive public rally, the Prime Minister emphasized the party’s reliability, asserting that “the BJP does what it says” while simultaneously vowing to protect tribal traditions and Sixth Schedule areas.

During his address, the Prime Minister launched a scathing attack on the Congress party, accusing it of historically pursuing “divisive politics” and “appeasement.” He specifically referenced a pre-2014 attempt by the Congress-led Central government to introduce a Communal Violence Bill, which he claimed was designed to target the majority community. “Now, 12 years later, Congress is trying to bring a similar bill in Assam just to win elections,” the PM alleged, contrasting the opposition’s record with the BJP’s “Mangal Patra” manifesto.

Highlighting the state’s transformation over the last decade, the Prime Minister noted that the current generation of youth has only witnessed the “good governance” of the NDA, escaping the “dark era” of guns and curfews. He specifically pointed to infrastructure milestones, claiming the “double-engine” government built five bridges over the Brahmaputra in just 11 years, compared to the three bridges constructed during 65 years of Congress rule.

As Assam prepares for a single-phase election on April 9, the Prime Minister’s remarks solidified the NDA’s campaign narrative of development versus “division.” With the BJP contesting alongside the AGP and BPF, the Prime Minister urged voters to choose a path of lasting peace and progress when they head to the polls.
