The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) carried out searches at five locations in Cachar District and arrested three individuals, including the Territorial Sales Manager of a telecom company, as part of Operation Chakra.

The case pertains to the unauthorized sale of SIM cards across India, which were reportedly used in cyber crimes such as digital frauds, impersonation, fraudulent advertisements, investment scams, and UPI-related frauds. Investigations revealed that the Territorial Sales Manager colluded with middlemen, distributors, and Point of Sale (PoS) agents to issue SIM cards without the knowledge of the registered owners, violating established guidelines. These SIM cards were sold in bulk at high prices and later used in illegal activities.

During the raids, the CBI seized mobile phones, electronic devices, and KYC documents as key evidence. The arrested individuals were produced before the local Magistrate Court, and transit remand was obtained. They are scheduled to appear before the jurisdictional FIR court tomorrow.

The CBI emphasized that this operation is part of ongoing efforts to prevent cyber crimes and dismantle the infrastructure enabling such offenses. Investigations are continuing.
