Guwahati, Jun 3: The felicitation event for newly appointed Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Gaurav Gogoi witnessed chaotic scenes on Tuesday at the party’s state headquarters, Rajiv Bhawan.

The programme was briefly suspended after overcrowding raised safety concerns, with organisers fearing the wooden dais might collapse under the weight of the crowd. A large number of party workers and supporters had gathered to welcome Gogoi.

Earlier in the day, Gogoi officially took over as APCC president, succeeding Bhupen Kumar Borah. Prior to the event, he offered prayers at the Kamakhya temple in Guwahati.
