Guwahati, Dec 2: On the occasion of Asom Diwas, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reaffirmed his commitment to creating an inclusive ‘Bor Asom’ or Greater Assam that embraces all communities. The day commemorates the historic arrival of Chaolung Sukapha, the founder of the Ahom kingdom, in Assam in 1228 AD.

Speaking on the significance of the day, Sarma said, “Swargadeo Chaolung Sukapha laid the foundation of our land and legacy. Today, we pledge to carry forward his vision by building a proud, strong, and united Assam.”

The Chief Minister also expressed gratitude to Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his Asom Diwas greetings and credited the double-engine government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi for preserving the cultural heritage of the Ahoms and promoting Assam’s legacy globally.

In his message, Amit Shah emphasized the government’s focus on peace, development, and education in Assam. “This day strengthens our unity and deepens our cultural roots,” he said.

In a major announcement, Sarma revealed plans to establish Su-Ka-Pha University in Charaideo, aimed at promoting diverse academic fields and advancing the vision of Bor Asom.
