Guwahati, Jan 14: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday expressed serious concern over the deteriorating condition of Hindus in Bangladesh, stating that the issue has been taken note of by the Government of India.
Speaking on the sidelines of a programme in Katigorah in Cachar district, Sarma said the Assam government and the people of the state strongly condemn the reported killings of Hindus in the neighbouring country and stand in solidarity with them. He said the Indian government is aware of the situation and is closely monitoring developments.
“The Government of India is aware of the plight of Hindus in Bangladesh. The people of Bharat stand with them during this difficult time,” Sarma said.
The Chief Minister noted that while foreign policy matters fall under the jurisdiction of the Centre, collective efforts are needed to address the issue. He said all concerned must remain united in opposing atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh.
Sarma also referred to his earlier statements on the matter, in which he had highlighted reports of violence against Hindus, including incidents of extreme brutality. He further mentioned remarks attributed to Bangladeshi leaders regarding Northeast India and pointed to reports of infiltration along the Assam border.
Calling for vigilance, the Chief Minister said authorities must closely observe developments in Bangladesh in view of regional security concerns.
