Dhekiajuli, Mar 30: BJP candidate from Dhekiajuli and state minister Ashok Singhal on Monday said that the Congress party has been “decimated” across Assam ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.

Speaking to ANI, Singhal attributed this to what he described as poor leadership and candidate selection within the party. He also stated that the Congress lacks key issues to campaign on and expressed confidence in a strong electoral performance by the BJP and its NDA allies.

Singhal highlighted Dhekiajuli as a long-standing BJP stronghold, noting that the party’s vote share in the constituency has increased steadily over the past decade. He said the party expects a significant rise in its winning margin in the current election.

Assam will go to the polls in a single phase across all 126 constituencies on April 9, with counting scheduled for May 4. The BJP-led NDA, under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, is seeking a third consecutive term in office, while the Congress aims to return to power.

Meanwhile, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge announced five guarantees at a rally in Nowboicha on Sunday. These include monthly financial assistance for women, ₹50,000 support for women entrepreneurs, ₹25 lakh cashless health coverage per family, and a commitment to deliver justice in the case related to singer Zubeen Garg within 100 days.
