Gogamukh, April 1: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday accused the Congress of planning to enact a law in Assam that would protect infiltrators if the party comes to power, a move he said the BJP and its allies would oppose.
Addressing an election rally in Gogamukh, Dhemaji district, Modi claimed that the Congress aims to “turn the majority community into a minority and create a permanent vote bank of infiltrators.”
He stated that Congress leaders have publicly supported the protection of infiltrators, and alleged that the party’s actions are akin to the divisive politics of the Muslim League during Partition. Modi also said that the Congress has undermined the Constitution drafted by Babasaheb Ambedkar.
Modi assured the crowd that a re-elected BJP government would implement the Uniform Civil Code and strengthen protections for tribals under the Sixth Schedule, in an effort to preserve Assam’s identity.
He highlighted the BJP’s tenure in the state as bringing improved governance and infrastructure development, and predicted that the party would win a third consecutive term in the upcoming Assam elections, while Congress would continue to face electoral defeats.
