Eminent Assamese Singer Samar Hazarika Passes Away In Guwahati

Guwahati, Jan 13: Renowned Assamese singer Samar Hazarika, the youngest brother of Bharat Ratna awardee Bhupen Hazarika, passed away on Tuesday morning at his residence in Nizara Par, Guwahati. He was suffering from age-related ailments and had recently been admitted to a city hospital.

Born to Nilakanta Hazarika and Shantipriya Hazarika, Samar Hazarika made significant contributions to Assamese music through his work in several music albums and Assamese films. His songs earned wide appreciation and added to Assam’s cultural landscape.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed condolences over his death in a post on X, saying Samar Hazarika’s soulful voice enriched Assam’s cultural life and that he played an important role in carrying forward the musical legacy associated with Bhupen Hazarika, including contributions during the celebrations of Bhupen Hazarika’s birth centenary.

With his passing, Assam has lost a noted voice in its music tradition. He is survived by family members and admirers across the state.
