Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said he would soon place evidence before the public regarding alleged links between Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi and Pakistan.

Responding to questions on BJP social media content referring to Gogoi as “Paijan”, Sarma said he was not connected to the memes but maintained that the alleged links exist. He stated that Gogoi and his family have connections with Pakistan and that supporting evidence would be made public in due course.

The BJP has circulated AI-generated videos showing a Gogoi lookalike labelled “Paijan”, alleging links between Gogoi, his British wife Elizabeth Colburn, and Pakistan’s ISI.

Sarma reiterated that he had earlier raised the issue and constituted a Special Investigation Team to examine the allegations. According to him, the SIT submitted its report on September 10, 2025, and the findings pointed to what he described as serious issues related to national security. He added that the matter is expected to be handed over to a central agency.

Gaurav Gogoi has rejected the allegations, calling them baseless and comparing them to a low-grade film. He has said that the people of Assam are aware of the facts. Gogoi took charge as the Assam Congress president after the allegations were made public.
