The Union government has approved the appointment of M Angamuthu, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, as the Chairman of Mumbai Port Authority. Angamuthu, currently serving as the Chairman of Visakhapatnam Port Authority, succeeds Rajiv Jalota, who stepped down in October 2024 after reaching superannuation.
M Angamuthu, a former Commissioner and Secretary to the Government of Assam, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. Prior to his current position, he served as Chairman of the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA). During his tenure in Assam, Angamuthu held various key positions, including Divisional Commissioner of North Assam Division, Tezpur, and Deputy Commissioner in several districts, such as Kamrup Metro, Karbi Anglong, Bongaigaon, Karimganj, and Nagaon.
Mumbai Port Authority, one of the 12 ports owned by the Union government, had been without a full-time Chairman after Rajiv Jalota’s superannuation. Sushil Kumar Singh, the Chairman of Deendayal Port Authority, has been holding the additional charge of Chairman, Mumbai Port Authority, since Jalota’s departure.
The appointment of M Angamuthu was cleared by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training.
