Former Assam Superintendent of Police and IPS officer Anand Mishra, along with former Union Minister Nagmani and his wife, ex-Bihar Minister Suchitra Sinha, officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday. The induction ceremony at the state BJP headquarters was presided over by state party president Dilip Jaiswal, with Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha in attendance.

Anand Mishra, a distinguished IPS officer from the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, secured an All India Rank of 225 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination in 2010. He began his career in the West Bengal Civil Service (2005–2010) before entering the Indian Police Service. Mishra served as Superintendent of Police in Dhubri, Nagaon and Lakhimpur districts of Assam, earning widespread acclaim and the social-media sobriquet “Assam’s Singham”—for his rigorous law-and-order measures.

Nagmani, a veteran politician who held a ministerial portfolio in Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s cabinet, reaffirmed that the NDA was set to reclaim power in Bihar. He stressed the importance of consolidating BJP strength in constituencies won by the Rashtriya Janata Dal in previous elections. Known for his stints across JD(U), RJD, BJP and LJP, Nagmani rejoined the BJP alongside his wife, Suchitra Sinha.

Suchitra Sinha, who served as a minister in Nitish Kumar’s government, brings decades of administrative and legislative experience to the party. Her entry is viewed as a strategic reinforcement of the BJP’s leadership roster ahead of the October–November assembly elections.

Political observers note that Mishra, who contested the 2024 Lok Sabha polls from Buxar as an independent after leading the Jan Suraaj Party’s youth wing—could be fielded by the BJP from the Buxar assembly seat, a move that may significantly alter the region’s electoral dynamics.
