Guwahati, Nov 21: Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi on Friday took a solemn pledge to work for the welfare, unity, and progress of Assam, drawing inspiration from the ideals of the late singer and cultural icon Zubeen Garg.

In a statement shared on X, Gogoi expressed his commitment to serve as a guardian of Assam, emphasizing the principles of love, peace, and harmony. He said his pledge was guided by the values Zubeen Garg embodied—humanism, equality, and respect for all communities.

“We will become humanitarians, respecting all castes, religions, and communities,” Gogoi said, urging people to reject fear, hatred, and discrimination. He highlighted the need for courage and accountability in defending Assam’s interests and safeguarding its unity.

Gogoi also committed to championing environmental and social causes, vowing to protect Assam’s natural heritage, including its rivers, hills, forests, and wildlife, while supporting the poor, oppressed, and marginalized. He stressed that social welfare should remain central to all development initiatives.

Emphasizing the preservation of Assamese identity and culture, Gogoi said Assam should exemplify “Unity in Diversity” and promote development alongside cultural pride. He called on the youth and citizens to embrace these values and work towards an inclusive, harmonious, and prosperous Assam.

Through this pledge, Gogoi aimed to honour Zubeen Garg’s legacy of compassion, unity, and service, inspiring people across the state to carry forward his vision for a better Assam.
