Congress MP and Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, is set to formally take charge as the President of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on June 3.
Ahead of his official assumption of office, a preparation meeting was held at Rajiv Bhawan in Guwahati on Wednesday. APCC Working President Zakir Hussain Sikdar and General Secretary Bipul Gogoi briefed the media about Gogoi’s schedule.
Gogoi will arrive in Jorhat from New Delhi on May 31 and begin his state tour by interacting with the public and Congress workers. On June 1, he will visit Nazira to attend a meeting hosted by Leader of the Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly, Debabrata Saikia. He will then proceed to Sivasagar for an overnight stay.
On June 2, Gogoi will travel through Jorhat and Golaghat to reach Nagaon, where he will meet party workers and the public. He will arrive in Guwahati later that day.
On June 3, Gogoi will formally assume the role of APCC President at a party meeting scheduled at the Manvendra Sharma Complex.
In a video message, Gogoi appealed for public support to work together for an Assam free from corruption and fear.
The preparation meeting witnessed the presence of senior Congress leaders, including former MPs Ripun Bora, Abdul Khaleque, Mira Borthakur, MLAs Rekibuddin Ahmed, Diganta Barman, Shibamani Bora, Nurul Huda, A.K. Rashid, and APCC Vice President Gunakanta Gogoi. Office-bearers of various party wings, including the Youth Congress, Seva Dal, and Mahila Congress, also participated in the gathering.
