Jharkhand Minister and Congress MLA Dipika Pandey Singh on Monday expressed confidence that Gaurav Gogoi will become the next Chief Minister of Assam, ahead of the state’s Assembly elections.

Speaking to the media, Singh said that the people of Assam are dissatisfied with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s administration and are seeking change. She stated, “In the future, a government of the common people will be formed there. Gaurav Gogoi will be the Chief Minister.”

The Election Commission announced that polling for all 126 Assam Assembly seats will be held in a single phase on April 9, with results scheduled for May 4. The Model Code of Conduct is now in effect across the state.

The upcoming elections will see a contest between the BJP-led NDA, which is seeking a third term under Sarma, and the Congress, aiming to regain power. In the 2021 Assembly elections, the NDA—comprising BJP, AGP, and UPPL—won 75 seats out of 126, with an 86.2% voter turnout from over 2.2 crore registered voters.

Singh also commented on the ongoing biennial Rajya Sabha elections in 10 states, including Assam, saying that Congress has the right to contest this time and expressing confidence in the victory of all party candidates. Polling for 37 seats began today, with counting scheduled at 5 pm.
