Guwahati, May 20: Harmeet Singh, IPS (RR-1992), has been appointed as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of Assam. The appointment was officially notified by the Home (A) Department of the Government of Assam on May 19, and will come into effect from the date he assumes charge.

Singh, who was serving as Special DGP, was earlier given the additional responsibility of overseeing the daily functions of the DGP’s office from January 27 this year. He also held the roles of Director General of Civil Defence and Commandant General of Home Guards in Assam.

His appointment marks a new chapter in the leadership of the Assam Police, bringing with him decades of administrative and policing experience.
