A civilian employee posted at the Indian Air Force’s Chabua Air Force Station in Assam was arrested on Sunday on charges of allegedly spying for Pakistan and sharing sensitive military information since 2023, according to Rajasthan Police.

The accused, identified as Sumit Kumar (36), a multi-tasking staff (MTS) from Uttar Pradesh, was detained during a joint operation conducted by Rajasthan Intelligence and Air Force Intelligence. He was subsequently brought to Jaipur for interrogation.

Police officials stated that during questioning, Kumar admitted to passing classified information to handlers in Pakistan through social media platforms in return for money.

The investigation began in January following the arrest of another suspect, Jhabararam, in Jaisalmer. During interrogation, Kumar’s alleged involvement came to light. Authorities said he shared details related to airbase infrastructure, locations of fighter aircraft, missile systems, and personnel. He also allegedly registered mobile numbers in his name to facilitate the creation of social media accounts for the handlers.

Additional Director General of Police (Intelligence) Prafulla Kumar confirmed the arrest to PTI. A case has been registered under the Official Secrets Act, 1923, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Further investigation is ongoing.
