Guwahati, May 5: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday welcomed Nukaga Fukushiro, Speaker of Japan’s House of Representatives, and his delegation at the Tata Semiconductor Assembly and Test Facility in Jagiroad. The delegation, on the second day of their three-day visit to Assam, toured the under-construction plant to assess its progress.
During the meeting, Sarma highlighted the importance of Japan’s involvement in Assam’s semiconductor sector, stating that Japan’s expertise will enhance the region’s technological capabilities and drive economic growth. He also emphasized the need for sustained collaboration between Japanese institutions and the Government of Assam to further strengthen ties.
The Chief Minister expressed optimism that the Tata Semiconductor Facility would create employment opportunities for local youth, reducing the need for them to seek jobs outside the state. Sarma also noted Japan’s continued support in key sectors such as health and infrastructure.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Minister of Water Resources Pijush Hazarika, Minister of Industries Bimal Bora, Minister of Sports and Youth Welfare Nandita Gorlosa, and Project Head of Tata Semiconductor Assembly Asish Mishra.
