Guwahati, March 28: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and senior Congress observer D.K. Shivakumar launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led Assam government on Saturday, labeling it the most corrupt administration in the country.

Speaking at a press conference, Shivakumar alleged that the entire state ministry, including family members of key leaders, is deeply entrenched in corrupt practices. He specifically targeted Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, questioning how the BJP’s own 2015 “booklet” of corruption charges against Sarma vanished after he joined the saffron party, sarcastically remarking that anyone who joins the BJP is “dipped clean” of their past.

The Congress leader further alleged that the state is currently under a “Hitler-like” regime where citizens and the media are living in constant fear. Shivakumar claimed that during his interactions with the Assamese diaspora in Bengaluru, many expressed a desire for change but were too terrified to share their thoughts on social media for fear of government reprisal.

He dismissed recent allegations made by the Chief Minister regarding state Congress chief Gaurav Gogoi’s supposed “Pakistan links,” calling them a sign of desperation and fear of losing to Gogoi’s leadership.

Shivakumar also addressed the recent defection of senior leader Pradyut Bordoloi to the BJP. He pointed out the irony that Bordoloi, who had recently prepared the Congress’s “charge sheet” against the current regime, is now a BJP candidate. He challenged the BJP to respond to the very charges their new candidate had leveled against them just a month ago. Asserting that many current BJP leaders are in touch with the Congress to switch sides, Shivakumar urged voters to trust the Congress’s track record of delivering on pre-poll guarantees, as seen in Karnataka.
