Agartala, October 18, 2025: A state-of-the-art KAVACH Lab Model was inaugurated today by Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), at the Signal & Telecom Specialized Training Centre (STC) in Pandu. The new facility marks a major step forward in Indian Railways’ ongoing efforts to enhance safety, reliability, and operational efficiency through advanced technology.

KAVACH, officially adopted as the National Automatic Train Protection (ATP) System on July 4, 2020, is an indigenously developed safety mechanism under the vision of AtmaNirbhar Bharat. The system is designed to prevent train collisions, ensure strict signal compliance, and automatically regulate train speed, thus supporting the Indian Railways’ Zero Accident Mission.

The newly inaugurated lab at STC Pandu features a full suite of KAVACH subsystems, including Station KAVACH, Loco KAVACH, Radio Frequency Communication, GSM and GPS antennas, Driver Machine Interface, Operation-cum-Indication Panel, and a Simulation Panel. It enables the realistic simulation of train operations between stations, providing a hands-on training platform for Signal & Telecom staff, Loco Pilots, Assistant Loco Pilots, and other personnel involved in KAVACH deployment and maintenance.

By replicating real-world operating conditions, the facility aims to improve understanding of system functionalities, enhance fault diagnostics, and strengthen coordination among KAVACH components. This initiative is expected to boost the technical proficiency and preparedness of railway personnel, thereby ensuring safer and more efficient train operations.

According to a press communiqué issued by NFR Chief Public Relations Officer Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, the commissioning of this advanced training lab underscores Indian Railways’ commitment to innovation, safety, and skill development, in pursuit of world-class railway infrastructure and operations.
