Guwahati, May 12: Assam’s Aisangfa Gogoi made history at the Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) 2025 by setting a new national youth record in the girls’ 55kg weightlifting category. Gogoi lifted a total of 183kg, surpassing the previous record set by Mina Santa last year in Fiji, and secured gold in the process.
This victory marked Assam’s sixth gold medal at the Games, helping the state move into the top 10 of the overall medal tally with two silver and two bronze medals.
Maharashtra continued to dominate in Yogasana, sweeping both gold and silver in the boys’ and girls’ rhythmic pairs events. Yash Khandagale added to the state’s success by winning gold in the boys’ 61kg weightlifting event. Maharashtra’s medal haul now stands at 30 gold, 24 silver, and 25 bronze medals.
Karnataka maintained its position in second place, while Rajasthan claimed gold in fencing through Prakriti Sharma in the girls’ sabre event. Sharma defeated Karnataka’s S Tanvi, who had earlier upset top-ranked Pangambam Ambika Devi of Manipur.
Madhya Pradesh remained in fourth place, while Haryana moved up to sixth after Sachin’s gold in boys’ foil fencing. Haryana’s tally now includes seven gold, six silver, and 16 bronze medals, while Punjab stays just ahead with seven gold, 10 silver, and 10 bronze medals, thanks to Sunil Singh’s victory in boys’ 61kg weightlifting.
Bihar, the host state, continued its strong performance, winning medals in Yogasana, alongside rugby, sepak takraw, cycling, gatka, judo, and shooting. Saransh Kumar and Abhishek Kumar claimed bronze in the boys’ rhythmic pair event, bringing Bihar’s medal tally to 20 medals—three gold, eight silver, and nine bronze.
Chhattisgarh also made an impact, with Arjun Kumar Chandra and Anant Swarnkar winning gold in the boys’ long staff fight at the Kalaripayattu competition. Kerala responded with a gold in the girls’ Chuvadukal final through Dhalana KS, who defeated Karnataka’s Larisha Sharma.
With athletics and wrestling events set to begin tomorrow and boxing progressing to the quarterfinals, the final four days of KIYG 2025 promise exciting developments in the medal race.
