Jorhat, March 31: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday highlighted development initiatives undertaken in Assam under the BJP-led government and criticized the Congress for its past approach towards the state and the Northeast.
Speaking at a rally in support of BJP’s Jorhat Lok Sabha candidate Hitendra Nath Goswami, Fadnavis said the current government has focused on infrastructure growth and preservation of the state’s cultural identity.
He alleged that the Congress had earlier neglected Assam and the broader Northeast region, contrasting it with the policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, under whom he said the region has received increased attention.
Referring to issues of infiltration, Fadnavis claimed that such challenges were more prominent during previous Congress governments and added that the situation has changed in recent years. He also stated that several militant groups have joined the mainstream.
On industrial development, he pointed to the upcoming semiconductor project by the Tata Group at Jagiroad, stating that it is expected to contribute to the state’s economic growth.
Fadnavis also raised criticism of the Congress over its stance on issues related to fuel supply during international developments and commented on Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi during his address.
The remarks were made during campaign activities for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
