Shillong, September 5: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma announced on Wednesday that the second round of border talks with Assam is likely to commence in October.

Sangma revealed that he had an informal meeting with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma about three to four weeks ago, where they decided to schedule the next meeting for October.

The talks aim to resolve the long-standing inter-state boundary dispute between Meghalaya and Assam, with six areas of contention: Langpih, Borduar, Nongwah-Mawtamur, Deshdoomreah, Block-I & Block-II, and Khanduli-Psiar.

Initial rounds of talks were held on May 23, 2023, and inspections of the disputed areas are still ongoing to gather necessary information and insight for the next round of discussions.

A joint meeting between the regional committees of Assam and Meghalaya was held on August 26 to find a mutually acceptable solution to the border disputes, led by Minister of Environment and Forest Chandra Mohan Patowary and Cabinet Minister Paul Lyngdoh.
