Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday said that Muslims who consider India their own country and follow its laws and cultural values will face no difficulties in the state.

Addressing the media, Sarma emphasized the importance of national identity and urged people to avoid cultural leanings toward neighbouring countries. “If you stay in Barak and listen to Bangladesh radio, that cannot happen. You should listen to Bharat’s radio,” he said.

He added that celebrating national icons like Rabindranath Tagore and supporting Indian cultural heritage, including proposals such as renaming Karimganj to Sribhumi, would strengthen Hindu-Muslim unity.

On the safety of Hindus in Assam, Sarma assured that Bengali Hindus are “100 percent safe” and said distinctions between Assamese, Bengali, or Tamil Hindus are unnecessary, as “all Hindus are one.” He also addressed concerns about Hindus excluded from the NRC, stating, “Leave that matter to me,” while noting that Bengali-speaking Hindus have lived comfortably in the state over the past decade.
