Guwahati, Feb 6: Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia said the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will field candidates in all 126 constituencies in the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, while discussions on seat-sharing among alliance partners are still underway.

Addressing journalists in Guwahati, Saikia stated that the alliance’s participation in all seats is confirmed, but the final distribution among partners has not yet been decided. He said talks are ongoing with Asom Gana Parishad leaders, including Atul Bora and Keshav Mahanta, along with MPs Birendra Prasad Baishya and Phani Bhushan Choudhury. He noted that post-delimitation changes, including altered and abolished constituencies, have created some issues, but discussions are continuing.

The NDA in Assam includes the BJP, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), Rabha Hasong Joutha Sangram Samiti (RHJSS), and Janashakti Party (JP). Saikia said the alliance’s campaign for the 2026 elections will focus on development and governance themes.

During the briefing, Saikia also commented on political issues, including allegations raised by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma regarding links between Congress state president Gaurav Gogoi and Pakistan. He described the matter as related to national security and said further details could emerge after discussions expected in the state cabinet.

The BJP also launched its ‘Booth Vijay Abhiyan’ campaign on Thursday, aiming to strengthen its presence across polling stations. According to Saikia, the Election Commission’s draft list shows 31,486 polling booths in Assam, an increase from 29,656 in 2021. He said the party has formed booth committees in about 28,000 locations and plans outreach programmes across constituencies.

Elections to the 126-member Assam Assembly are scheduled to be held in March–April 2026.
