Agartala, December 03, 2025: In a major step towards digital transformation and operational transparency, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has successfully implemented a 100 percent biometric Sign On/Sign Off system for all Ticket Checking Staff across its five divisions, covering 22 TTE lobbies.

The system has now been made fully functional at several key railway stations under the NFR zone, including Katihar, Kishanganj, Alipurduar Junction, New Bongaigaon, Rangiya Junction, Kamakhya, Guwahati, Dibrugarh Town and New Tinsukia.

Confirming the development, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of NFR, Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, said, “The implementation of the biometric Sign On/Sign Off system for all ticket checking staff marks a significant digital milestone for NFR. It ensures complete transparency and accountability in staff movement, attendance and duty compliance across the zone.”

He added that the real-time attendance system has further strengthened the efficiency of ticket checking operations. “With accurate and real-time attendance capture, we are able to ensure better monitoring and optimal deployment of staff for train manning and onboard duties. This has led to greater discipline, improved punctuality and enhanced service delivery,” Sharma said.

According to him, the increased efficiency in checking activities has also helped in improving revenue. “The introduction of this system has reduced ticketing irregularities and contributed to higher revenue earnings. Improved staff presence in the field has also resulted in a notable rise in window ticket sales,” he stated.

To maintain smooth functioning of the system, dedicated teams at the Divisional and Zonal Headquarters are continuously monitoring biometric installations and real-time data from all TTE lobbies.

NFR remains committed to adopting advanced digital technologies to enhance operational efficiency, improve passenger services and strengthen revenue generation. The biometric attendance system is a major step towards creating a more transparent, efficient and technologically advanced railway network, Sharma added.
